Prescription Medicine

Exelon® is a prescription medicine available as transdermal patches containing rivastigmine 5cm2 (4.6mg/24 hours) or 10cm2(9.5mg/24hours) for the treatment of mild to moderately severe Alzheimer's Disease. Exelon is an unfunded medicine – a pharmacy charge applies. Check with your doctor to see if Exelon is right for you. A normal doctor’s fee applies. Cautions are restlessness, heart rhythm disturbances, signs of liver disorders, seizures, urinary disorders, asthma and chronic obstructive lung disease. If you have a low body weight, check your weight periodically. Side effects can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, heartburn, stomach pains and loss of appetite, headache, and dizziness, application site reactions. Caution when driving, operating machinery or doing jobs that require you to be alert. Refer to consumer medicine information at the website www.medsafe.govt.nz for full details.
